Margaret “Midge” Mulligan (nee McGuire), of Jim Thorpe, Pa, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, the 13th of January 2018.
Midge was born to John T. “Chippy” McGuire and Elizabeth “Muzzy” McGuire (nee Sofranko) May 1925 in Jim Thorpe, PA. She was married to John H. “Jack” Mulligan on July 12th 1941, and the pair remained together for a blissful 63 years. Together they raised six children, and later adventured around the globe. From cruising through the cold waters of Alaska, to drinking Guinness in the home country, no place was off limits. Before her retirement, she worked for Penn State University as a nutritionist, receiving numerous awards and recognitions for her achievements in her career. Always active in community affairs, she served on the Jim Thorpe zoning board and Shade Tree Commission. After retirement, she started her own business “The Gem Shop” in her home, selling and identifying semi-precious and precious gems. She also designed and crafted unique jewelry for many years.
She is preceded in death by her husband, John H. “Jack” Mulligan, and son, John T. “Jackie” Mulligan, and a son in law, Bob Warnike. She is survived by her five daughters: Patricia Mulligan, Maureen Warnicke, both of New Jersey, Marge and her husband Gerard Hoare, Mary K. and her husband Thomas Lesisko, and Lib Mulligan, all of Jim Thorpe. She is also survived by her beloved daughter in law, Mary Mulligan and her husband Robert Stevenson and close friend Virginia, 11 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren.
She will be greatly missed for her warmth, kindness, and sense of humor.
Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday January 16, 2018 11 am in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Jim Thorpe. Calling hours Monday in Church 6-8 pm and Tuesday 10 am until the time of Mass. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
