Barbara Maloney Obituary

Barbara Maloney, 67, daughter of Honey and Harry Guardiola and loving wife for 39 years of Frederick Maloney, passed away on August 15, 2021 with her family by her side. She was born and grew up in Massapequa Park, Long Island with three brothers, Harry, Jimmy, and Paul and two sisters, Bernadette and Janice, with whom she was very close.

Barbara loved to be active and seek out adventure. Always a free spirit, she was drawn to gymnastics and surfing and would find her way to the stage at the many concerts she attended. Her passion and creativity drove her to pursue a career as a ballerina in New York and to study acting at HB Studio.

Barbara met her husband, Frederick Maloney, in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn where he wooed her on the tennis courts, but he won her heart with an ice cream cone from the legendary Hinsch’s ice cream parlor. They married on October 10, 1982 and had two sons, Fred and Sean, before moving the family from Brooklyn to Jim Thorpe, PA so the boys could grow up near their grandparents.

Barbara was a devoted mother who radiated love, positivity, and empathy. Barbara loved to laugh. She always encouraged her sons to follow their dreams, embrace imagination, and shared her passion for life by taking Fred and Sean to all different kinds of experiences in New York when they were children. Her love for caring for people extended into her second career as a Special Education Assistant for over 20 years at Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit 21.

Barbara’s generosity, compassion, and nurturing spirit will be greatly missed. She was predeceased by her brother, Harry. She is survived by her husband, Frederick, her two children, Frederick and his wife Samantha, and Sean and his partner Laura, one grandson, Liam, and four siblings, Janice, James, Bernadette, and Paul.
