David J Gilberry of Jim Thorpe passed away Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at home.
Born in Lansford, December 7, 1948 he was the son of Nicolas and Susanna (Pekarik) Gilberry.
He was a 1966 graduate of Panther Valley High School Lansford. He served his country in the US Navy and was assigned to a Marine Corps unit while serving a tour of duty in Vietnam. He was the recipient of the National Defense Service medal, Vietnam Service medal with four Bronze Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross, Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions metal, and a Navy Unit Commendation ribbon.
He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was employed by the EH Staples construction company doing electrical construction and a tool and die maker for Fuller company in Allentown.
He like to hunt and more than anything he loved his bass fishing.
He was a member of Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jim Thorpe.
He is survived by two brothers Raymond of Bethlehem and Daniel of Allentown. A niece Anastasia Pilarski of Wisconsin and a nephew Daniel Gilberry Jr. of Lansford.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday, December 7 at 10 AM in Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church Jim Thorpe with father Ronald Minner officiating. Calling hours 9 AM until the time of Mass. Interment will take place in Saint Michaels old cemetery Summit Hill.
