Eugene F Hayes 77 of Jim Thorpe passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2022 in the St. Lukes Bethlehem Campus. He was the husband of Ann Louise (Klotz) Hayes. The couple celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary this past September.
Born in White Haven PA January 21,1945, he was a son to the late Forrest and Katherine Benkins/McNally Hayes.
He graduated from Central Luzerne High School, Mountain Top, PA.
He served in the US Navy and was a member of Saint John’s Lutheran Church in the Heights section of Jim Thorpe.
Eugene was a Street Commissioner for White Haven borough and Bear Creek Lakes for many years before retiring.
Eugene was a lifetime member of the Diligent Fire Co. No.3, in Jim Thorpe. He enjoyed trains, and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his daughters Laura Ann McArdle and her husband Kevin of Jim Thorpe. Melissa Hayes and companion of Grant Andrews, in Albrightsville PA, Beth and Dustin Rehrig of Walnutport PA. Son, Donald Hayes and his wife Jennifer of York Pennsylvania. Sister Patsy Shelhammer and her husband Terry of White Haven PA. Grandchildren Steven, Jordan, Molly, Ryan, April, Olivia, Erin, Connor and Emma. Great grandchildren Collin, Isabella, Noah, Nicholas and Colt. He was predeceased by a grandson Brandon, sister June Yetter and brothers Forrest, Gordon, and Harry
Services will be held Monday, July 11, 2022 in the David J. Stianche Funeral Home 123 Center St. at 11 AM. Calling hours will be Monday, 9 AM until the time of the services in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery Jim Thorpe.
