Francis J. (Frank) Sebelin of Jim Thorpe passed away Saturday, December 9, 2023 in his home surrounded by his loving wife and family. He was 89 years old. He was the husband of Cecelia (Mundy) Sebelin, the couple celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in October.
Born in East Mauch Chunk April 14, 1934 he was a son of Frank V and Julia (Shubeck) Sebelin.
He was a proud member of the United States Navy, having served two tours in Antarctica as part of Operation Deep Freeze.
He was a lifelong member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Jim Thorpe.
He was an interior designer and owner of the former Wall and Window Decor in Jim
Thorpe for many years, until retiring.
Frank was an avid sportsman and active community member and was honored by the MCT Community Hero Program in 2008. While he gave time to many organizations, he was especially proud of the annual fishing derby for children with special needs, run by the Germantown Grove Club.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Julia and her wife Diane Satchwell of Derby, England son, Francis Sebelin of Jim Thorpe. Daughters Maria, and her husband, Arthur Guth of Jim Thorpe, Christine and her husband, Kevin Mallahy,of Massapequa Park, NY. Five grandchildren Lauren Holland, Christopher Holland , Brittany (Mallahy) Niblett,
Matthew Mallahy and Kevin Frailey. Sister, Irene Serignese of Nesquehoning, Theresa Steidle of Pitman, New Jersey, and JoAnn Stehle of Jim Thorpe. Frank was predeceased by a sister, Jean Pathroff.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated December 16, 2023 at 10 AM in Saint Joseph Catholic Church Jim Thorpe. Calling hours will be held Friday, December 15, 2023 in the DavidJ. Stianche, Funeral Home 123 Center St. Jim Thorpe from 6 to 8 PM and on Saturday morning from 9 AM until 9:30. Interment will be in the parish cemetery following mass with military honors.
