Joan L. (Raczkowski) Dougherty

Joan L. Dougherty, cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and beloved friend, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2024, at the age of 74 in her hometown of Jim Thorpe, PA. Born on April 9, 1949, in Lehighton, PA, to Leonard and Mary (Golis) Raczkowski, Joan was imbued with a spirit of kindness and a loving nature that would become her hallmark throughout her life. Her husband, William passed away in 2007.

Joan graduated from Jim Thorpe High School and quickly became a respected figure in her community through her dedicated work at The Inn of Jim Thorpe, where her gentle demeanor was warmly appreciated by both colleagues and guests. Joan’s sincere commitment to her faith was evident to all, as she was a devoted member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jim Thorpe.

Her life was a testament to the values she held dearest: family and love. Joan’s legacy is lovingly carried forward by her daughters, Judy Shubeck, Melissa Hunsicker and her husband Carl, and Tassy Clausius and her husband Rusty, all of whom reside in Jim Thorpe. Joan's warmth and guidance will be missed by her sister, Antoinette Yaich and her husband Ed, and her brother, Joseph Razckowski and his wife Lucy, also of Jim Thorpe. Joan's joy was multiplied by her cherished grandchildren, Jaden, Liam, Spencer, Sabrina, and Kamara, and by the laughter of her great-granddaughter, Harper and a great grandson James John III and expecting Tate to be born May 26.

Joan's life was a beautiful melody of loving, kind, and gentle moments that resonated with everyone she encountered. Her memory will continue to inspire those who knew her as they hold her close in their hearts forever.

Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday March 22, 2024 at 10am in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Calling hours will be Thursday March 21 in the David J. Stianche Funeral Home 6pm- 8pm and Friday morning in the funeral home 9 until 9:30am. Interment will take place in St. Joseph Cemetery Bloomingdale at a later date.
