John Marchione, a bastion of wisdom, kindness, and love, departed from this life on March 4, 2024, at the age of 91. Born in Philadelphia, PA, on October 24, 1932, John was the beloved son of Joseph and Anna (Venuti) Marchione. He bid his final farewell in the peaceful town of Coaldale, PA.
John's life was a testament to service and community. After dedicating five years to academic excellence at the University of Maine, he entered a life of service, first in the US Marines and then in the US Air Force. His commitment to his country was unwavering as he served honorably during the Korean and Vietnam wars. His leadership shone through as he became an Athletic Director at numerous military bases, influencing the lives of many servicemen and women through sports and recreation.
Following his military career, John's passion for education led him to become a substitute teacher for Carbon County Votech, where he continued to inspire and mentor countless students. His involvement did not end there; he was a lifelong member of the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars), carrying the torch of camaraderie and support for his fellow veterans.
John's faith was a cornerstone of his existence, and he was a devout member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Jim Thorpe. His presence will be profoundly missed by his cherished wife, Helene (Ryan) Marchione, his devoted children, William, Steve, David, Corinne, Roxanne, and Heather, and the many lives he touched with his wise and loving spirit.
