Philomena “Phyllis” Lopez of Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully on January 17, 2024, at the age of 84 in Hazelton, Pennsylvania. Born on March 15, 1939, in Moca, Puerto Rico she was the daughter of the late Abraham and Nicasia Mendez Nunez. She was the wife of Dimas “Jimmy” Lopez who preceded her death on January 23, 2001.
She is survived by her devoted son James Lopez and wife Amy of Fogelsville, Pennsylvania; her loving daughter Minnette Lopez of Brooklyn, New York, loving sisters Mary Nuttall of Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania, Olga and her husband Ferdinand Diaz of Robbinsville, New Jersey, Margaret Weller of Robbinsville, New Jersey; many nieces and nephews, and her dear friend Patty Corl of Penn Forrest Township whom Phyllis fondly regarded as a second daughter and her angel. Her legacy continues thru her five grandchildren and six great grandchildren who were the light of her life. Phyllis was predeceased by her daughter Yvette Kilpatrick, son-in-law Roger Kilpatrick, her sister Rosemary Londono, and her brother Samuel Nunez, all who held a very special place in her heart.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. She loved cooking for her family, shopping, going on cruises, reading, and doing crossword puzzles. Phyllis loved animals, especially her cat Missy who was by her side endlessly.
Phyllis always had a smile for everyone and was loved by all who knew her.
Phyllis’ professional life was marked by her dedication to nurturing young minds as a teacher’s assistant at Carbon County Head Start for many, many years. Her gentle guidance and thoughtful approach to education left a positive mark on countless children and their families. Her involvement in the community and her commitment to the well-being of others were hallmarks of her character.
Phyllis’ life was a testament to the power and love and the importance of family. Her influence will be felt for generations to come, and her memory will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to have known her. As we bid farewell to Philomena “Phyllis” Lopez, we celebrate a life beautifully lived, and a soul that enriched the lives of so many.
Services will be held Saturday January 27,2024 in the David J. Stianche Funeral Home 123 Center Street, Jim Thorpe, PA at 3 PM. Calling hour 2PM until the time of the service in the funeral home. Interment will be private at a later date.
