William Solomon Obituary

William “Bump” Solomon, age 72 of Jim Thorpe, passed away on Monday, March 20th, 2023, doing what he loved best… riding a bicycle. He was the husband of Jamie (Long) Solomon for 52 years, married on June 6, 1970. Born in Coaldale on June 2, 1950, he was a son of Edward and Elizabeth (Young) Solomon. “Bump” was a 1968 graduate of Jim Thorpe Senior High School and worked as a Purchasing Manager prior to retirement.

Bump worked on the Reading and Northern RR as a conductor/train car host after retirement, participated in numerous community events, and was the recipient of the “Community Hero” Mauch Chunk Trust 2022 Award. He was known for the “Polar Express,” where he would volunteer his time delivering handmade (by the “Bell Factory”) bells to all the kids in local school districts. There was never a time that Bill wouldn’t carry spare bells in his pocket to give out to strangers while educating them on the history of Jim Thorpe and the railroad.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Jamie, are his children; Debra Evans and her husband James Jr. & William “Chip” Solomon, brothers; Edward “Bud” Solomon and his wife Sheryl & James Solomon and his wife Rose, grandchildren; Bryanna Kehrli and her fiancé, Kelsey Massar, Alexis Solomon, and Kylie Solomon, and a grand dog; Paco Taco. Bump had many nieces, nephews, and cousins that also loved him very much. He was predeceased by a sister “Jackie” Zvorsky.

Services will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at 12 PM in Stianche Funeral Home, Jim Thorpe. Calling hours will be from 10 AM until the time of service in the funeral home.
